"Gianni, Your reputation has firmly cemented itself on many of us (I speak for those that I have spoken with): your love for the beautiful game is unquestionable, your knowledge and passion as a coach is a gift to us all, and your honesty, hard work, thoughtfulness, and thoroughness are an excellent example to each and everyone of us how to cherish this game and develop ourselves through it. Of course, you already know this, which is great. I just wanted to thank you once again. Best of luck to you, Coach Gianni!"
—With respect, Aran.
"I learned more from you in these few
short weeks, than from other coaches playing soccer for the last 4 years."
"Thank you so much for your time. We
learned a lot in our short time with you, and we will apply these lessons
in the future. It made such a difference for us to be warmed up and concentrated
on the game at kickoff. The rest of the team and I greatly appreciate
the time and commitment you put into kicking our season off with a great

"Thanks for working with us Gianni....
I think we played 2 of our best games with you as a coach!"
— Christi R.
I always think of you before my matches as I warm up with tick tocks, figure 8's, and a whole host of other "Coach Gianni" excercises I learned from you. You have been such a positive force in my soccer development and at 39 years old, I'm enjoying soccer more and more each year, largely because of the excercises and words of wisdom from you! Now that I'm fit (I lost 15 lbs), soccer is the most fun ever and I look forward to my matches like a kid looking forward to Christmas! Yes, I'm still a kid : )
All the best, Dan de Serpa
Hi Coach Gianni it's me Antonio from your Tuesday class. I want to thank you for sharing some of your soccer knowledge with me; you have brought me a century ahead from where I was before. Finally I am making a diference in my team.
Take care and keep up the good work.
Luis A. Becerra
Morning Gianni.... had to tell you about this. At my coed outdoor 7v7 game last night I scored 2 goals and had an assist in a 5-2 victory. Narrowly missed scoring and assisting a couple more on top of that. I usually play more of a defensive role but told the team I wanted to play up front this week since I've been working with you on shooting and skills, etc. Well it certainly paid off!!! At half time I could hear the other team talking about how they needed to watch out for me and after the game everyone on my team was saying how well I played. Not only that but our team seemed to rise to the occasion and passed with incredible vision and passion.
Your coaching is certainly having an effect my friend!! The best part is that I really feel like there is so much more to learn and that I've just begun to start playing football the right way! Thanks for sharing your insights with me!!!! Can't wait until next Tuesday.
You have taught only 'quality'. I have become a soccer player with legitimacy on the field in 12 months instead of a hole that players are afraid to pass to. Your classes and newsletter are a big reason and your fitness message is awesome.
I just wanted to let you know.... I had an awesome soccer game last Saturday!
I actually got by people with the ball close at my feet!!! Thanks so much, your lessons have actually helped me, even in this short time. Can't wait for the next session! See you soon.
Thank you Gianni. I wish I had had you as my coach when I was a young boy. You are an excellent coach, and I am sure you are a good man outside of your coaching endeavors...you have a very positive outlook on the game and on life in general. Keep it up.
All the best,
I'm not sure which is more inspiring for me, your website or the Sunday evening clinic. I came to soccer rather late in life. I grew up a typical American, involved in baseball, football and basketball. I only played a little bit of soccer in college (back in the 1970s) and didn't get involved in the game until my daughter started to play micro soccer at the age of 6. I decided to join an over 30 soccer team this fall, because I was tired of just standing on the sidelines and I wanted to challenge myself before I was 'over the hill' (Where is that hill, anyway?) I'm taking your clinic because I want to be competitive with players who are 20 years younger than me and because I want to teach 'my' girls the skills that you are teaching me.
Hi Coach Gianni,
Yes, it was a great lesson, as usual. Thank you for all your great coaching and inspiration. I am so happy we know each other and I hope I can continue to come to classes as my schedule and finances allow. I certainly do not want to take advantage of your endless knowledge, generosity, and time, so I will try to attend when I can. All the best and hope to see you soon. Ciao.
Hi, Coach Gianni
I think your clinics are great. I really want to improve and I think they are helping.
And they are great workouts too.
Thank you. Emily
This is just to say "thanks" again for your terrific Sunday afternoon
program. There are few resources/classes available for *adults* to develop soccer skills so you are performing a valuable service for the Bay Area.
I really got a lot from your coaching. I'm also pleased to have come away with some exercises that I can use to develop ball control skills on my own. I made a promise to myself a couple of years ago to try to learn this game, but this has turned out to be a much bigger challenge than I expected. Especially at my age (41) with little athletic talent, little prior experience and a surgically reconstructed knee. But this is why I chose soccer - because it's hard for me and doesn't come naturally (not because it's the world's most beautiful game, which it is of course). Learning to play has been an interesting road and I intend to stay on it, even though I may move at a snail's pace. Thanks for
putting some lights along the way!
"Dear coach Gianni,
I wanted to let you know that I am having
fun being keeper and it has become one of my favorite positions. Your
training has helped me so much, and I have been taking on the responsibility
of the cage quite well. On Thursday I had a soccer game against a school
team in Marin, and I played well. I had a couple of punching saves and
I even saved a penalty kick. Our team tied one of the best teams in the
league. Without your training I wouldn't have lasted one minute as goalie.
Thank you so much for helping me become a better soccer player."
— M. H.
Thank you for everything. If it wasn’t for you I would not have been able to perform the way I did. You inspired me everyday and made me push myself harder than ever. Thank you so much for the time you took out of your schedule to come teach me.”
— Bobby (Robert A.)
You are the nicest, wisest person that I have ever met. Thanks for the training and the wisdom.”

“Thank you so much for your incredible inspiration.”

Thank you Gianni!
It was a pleasure working with you. You have helped me in so many ways, both in my shooting skills and with my overall integrity as a soccer player and an athlete. I will miss you next year and wish you all the best with the Urban Team and your many other endeavors.
Just wanted to let you know that C............. had an awesome game this past weekend and in fact scored a terrific goal using a very "Gianni" move. It was great to watch her actually utilizing the things you have been working on. It was also nice to hear her say that it came naturally and she didn't really think about it.
Hi Coach Gianni,
I wanted to pass on how much C........ is getting from our sessions. She's always been a somewhat passive player and to sort of create a game within the game, she and I would count game time touches which as you know are really quite infrequent unless you are one of the aggressive players and then the problem is the opposite.
This year we advanced to counting wall passes and since starting her sessions with you she has me counting wall passes and using what she calls 'gianni moves'. Last game she utilized 'gianni moves' 17 times including a change of direction move that she was quite proud of and 2 assists on goal from well balanced passes.
The homework and sessions are paying off but most important is she is really enjoying the game. Thanks so much.
Hey Coach G, Thanks for all that you do. My son and I really enjoy the knowledge you impart on us weekly. Soccer is my sons greatest passion and we hope someday to meet you.
Dear Coach Gianni,
Just wanted you to know how refreshing your article was in the Soccer California, about our youth playing so many games and tournaments during the year. Your point of view is a breadth of fresh air. Anything you can do to "trickle down" your feelings to other coaches and teams in CYSA would be greatly appreciated!!!
"My husband and I took our 8-year-old twin boys who play competitive soccer to see the Urban v MA game last Friday (to support Urban). I wanted them to see how the big boys play! While the entire Urban team fought valiantly, the Urban goalkeeper was such a standout. One of my sons plays keeper and was very intrigued by watching your keeper Bobby. In fact, the Urban keeper's outstanding plays inspired my son to make a very daring save against an onslaught of three opponents the very next day. We knew three of the boys on the MA team and when I spoke to their parents at the game they echoed my praise and half-joked that MA should recruit our keeper! So, just wanted to give you, and him, a little feedback.

Dear Coach G,
I wanted to express my gratitude and appreciation for your ‘one on one’ personalized coaching mentorship over the past six months. Your published articles as well as the various referred reading materials were incredibly helpful. The evolution of your program to ritualize everything from warm-ups to passing and ball skills through game strategy and fun time has worked. The depth of your program provided me with a seemingly everlasting set of tools to continue layering into our practices as the kids get older and become more adept at each skill. The most noticeable change during the course of this season has been the ‘Shape’ of the team that now moves throughout the field in soccer formation in a way I hadn’t thought possible at these ages. Last, our teams are playing extremely competitively and at a much higher level than in prior years. In fact, we have beaten several of the more competitive Mission club teams who play all-year round, something we have not been able to closely achieve in prior years. Finally and most importantly, the kids are playing with tons of confidence and loving the sport of soccer.
Coach Rob (U 9 boys and U 6 girls)
I love all your articles that you’ve been sending out to all of us. You are one of the few genuine soccer fans that I’ve been lucky enough to get to know and become friends with.
You are so right when you stated that you need to have a little kid in you to play soccer. This is the only way I know how to enjoy playing and teach our game.
One World ! One Game ! I’m sure you know the famous person who said this !
Your Friend from Modesto !

After tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep, I went on my computer to check emails. I received your email... then I went to your site.
Wow. I've been playing for 30 years plus, in my 3rd year of coaching (2nd year Under 8 - EDYSL) and I just want you to know how much I appreciate your approach. I learned much from just reviewing your site, and I'll share a few items with my team.
Bravo, Gianni, for a wonderful website. Your love of the game shows through very clearly.
I'm glad I got out of bed to check my mail. We'll meet one day, I'm sure.
With much respect,
From the US National Team Coach 1982-1994
I hope to see more of you at the higher levels. As to your website. Fantastico! You are a definite 'sparkplug' of our soccer here in the San Francisco Bay area, if not the state as well. Bravo! and hope to continue to be in touch with you for a long time. Regards, keep teaching and coaching in the meanwhile.

I just wanted to thank you again for your clinic. My girls were very challenged by it, but they also felt a great sense of accomplishment at having been able to execute what you taught them. As Rachel said " it's like I have learned an entirely new way to kick the ball". As a coach, I thank you for having provided my team with the tools necessary to become fundamentally solid shooters and scorers. I will recommend you highly to other teams (but NOT to our opponents !!!).
