|The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary|
When I was a kid, I was very fascinated by a scene of the movie "Giant", in which James Dean was sitting alone and to kill some time held a piece of rope, with a little stone tied at the end. With an imperceptible movement of the wrist, he pulled the rope and made a knot almost like magic. I was hypnotized by the beauty and simplicity of that movement. Seeing how the stone, in falling back, made a knot in the rope.
In the movie it looked so simple but when I tried it was almost impossible. After 10 minutes I threw the stone away and thought it must be only a theatrical trick. The next day, because kids are like that, I tried again. 30 minutes. Nothing! At that point it became a challenge. "I will try until I can do it no matter how much time it takes".
It took a lot! I tried at least an hour a day for 3 months, but after that, to the present day, it takes a small movement of the wrist to astonish any spectator.
I was so happy the day I succeeded.
When I show my trick to kids, they try a couple of times and, not succeeding, give up. It's a very diffused attitude among the new generation in which things are easy and immediate. To shoot powerfully, on the ground, in the direction we want is not easy and takes hours and hours of practice and repetition. Maybe that's the reason a professional player makes millions for being able to do it!
SUCCESS comes with a LOT OF WORK and the only place that it comes before work, is in the dictionary.
